She was a second cousin of Sir Montagu Allan (her mother's first cousin) and a first cousin of his wife, Lady Marguerite (Mackenzie) Allan. Isobel was described by a grandson as, "a perfect Victorian lady but a highly unusual character to boot". She was the mother of two sons and two daughters.
