Dr. George Arthur Dixon (1857-1933)

Physician, of 15 West 49th Street, New York City & "By-the-Way" Southampton, L.I.

He was one of Gilded Age society's most popular physicians whose clients included J.P. Morgan and William Kissam Vanderbilt. He attended to Charles T. Barney on the day of his suicide and was among those who attended to President McKinley after he was shot. In 1922, he purchased "Edgecombe" at Southampton, L.I., which had been built by his late brother-in-law, Henry Burr Barnes. He renamed it "By-the-Way" and after his death it was bought by Henry Rogers Benjamin.
