Thomas Stewart (c.1740-1795)

Thomas Stewart, of Steelend, Perthshire; "Officer in the Royal Army"

He was of the Stewarts of Invernahyle. His grandfather, Alan Stewart, died of his wounds while fighting for Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1746. Thomas married "the heiress of Boghall" and then purchased the neighboring tack of Steelend, near Dunning. Mrs Stewart's portrait hung at the Gardner Museum in Boston, established by their great-granddaughter, Isabella Stewart Gardner. Aside from having two sons, in 1808, a daughter was married in New York to James Arnott, Merchant of Philadelphia.
