Peter Goelet Gerry (1879-1957)

Peter G. Gerry, U.S. Senator from Rhode Island

He was described as, "quite a sedate young man, very fond of driving and polo". He inherited the old Lewis house "Lake Delaware" in the Catskills that he maintained as a summer home and where he spent "considerable time" with both his wives. In the 1950s he lived for part of the year at Biltmore with his second wife - the widow of its builder, George Washington Vanderbilt. He died without children by either wife, and within hours of his elder brother, Robert Livingston Gerry.
