Kate Fearing (Strong) Welman (1851-1907)

Mrs "Puss" Katherine Fearing (Strong) Welman

She was nicknamed "Puss" by her friends and when she attended the Vanderbilt's 1883 fancy dress ball she appeared with a stuffed cat on her head and a diamond-studded collar that spelled out "Puss". She was married in 1878 to the man Henry James described as her "useless husband," the second son of an English landowner.
