Charles Edward Strong (1824-1897)

Charles E. Strong, Lawyer, of New York City

He graduated from Amherst College and studied law with his great-uncle, George W. Strong. He was admitted to the New York Bar in 1846 and became a partner in his great-uncle's firm, afterwards joined by his great-uncle's son, George Templeton Strong. In 1869, he was described by Henry James who'd seen him in Rome as the "estranged husband" of Eleanor Fearing and by 1870 he was living in England. In 1860, he married Eleanor Burrill Fearing, daughter of William S. Fearing of New York and grand-daughter of James Burrill, U.S. Senator from Rhode Island. They had one child.
