She was a grand-daughter of James Burrill, U.S. Senator from Rhode Island, and a first cousin of Colonel George R. Fearing, President of the Knickerbocker Club and co-founder of the Newport Casino. In 1860 she married Charles E. Strong from whom she was estranged by 1869. They were the parents of one daughter.
