John Burstall (1765-1831)

Merchant & Shipowner at Hull; of Wolfreton House, Kirk Ella, East Yorkshire

He was a merchant and shipbuilder at Hull. In 1814, he bought Wolfreton House (see image) at Kirk Ella, built ten years previously by John C. Cankrien. He married Isabella, daughter of Francis Hall of Lysdon House (afterwards sold to John's son William Burstall) and sister-in-law of the Hull banker James Keiro Watson, of Mount Hessle, which was later bought in the 1870s by John's grandson, Col. J.H. Burstall.
