Harry Bowly Hollins (1854-1938)
H.B. Hollins, of 12 West 56th Street, New York City & "Meadow Farm" East Islip, L.I.
He was born in New York City, and was a great-grandson of Daniel Bowly, of Baltimore, and John Butler Coles, of New York. Educated privately, he began his business career with Levi P. Morton & Co. before going to work for J.P. Morgan & Co. - he and J.P. Morgan would become lifelong best friends. As a banker and broker, he founded H.B. Hollins & Co., and among others of similar stature, he was William Kissam Vanderbilt's stockbroker. He co-founded the Knickerbocker Trust Company and was Vice-President of the Central Railroad & Banking Company of Georgia, and the International Bank of Mexico. He was a director of the North America Safe Deposit Company, the Central Union Gas Company, the Corporation Trust Company and others. He was a member of the Metropolitan, Knickerbocker, Union, and Racquet Clubs and in 1877 he married Evelina Knapp, granddaughter of Shepherd Knapp, by whom he had five children (listed). He kept a country home "Meadow Farm" at East Islip, on Long Island, and in 1899 hired McKim, Mead & White to build his townhouse, 12 West 56th St. in New York City.
