Elizabeth (Rockefeller) Strong (1866-1906)

Mrs. "Bessie" Elizabeth Avery (Rockefeller) Strong

She was the eldest and most intellectually-minded of the children of the world's first billionaire. Unusually for women of her era - not to mention wealthy society women - she pursued higher education at Vassar College in the 1880s before marrying the philosopher Charles Augustus Strong. Her philanthropic interests reflected her scholarly and progressive mind. She had one daughter but died not long afterwards.
