Daniel Sargent (1731-1806)

Merchant, of Gloucester, Newburyport & Boston, Massachusetts

He was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He was a successful merchant principally involved in the fishing industry. He expanded his operations to Newburyport before coming to Boston where he lived in a house on Atkinson (Congress) Street with about 10,000-square feet of land around it. That house was destroyed by a fire in the summer of 1784 when he moved to another on Fort Hill before leasing the Bradlee mansion on the corner of Lincoln and Essex Streets. In 1763, he married Mary, daughter of John Turner, of the House of the Seven Gables in Salem, Massachusetts. They had seven children, six of whom (listed) lived to adulthood.
