Augusta (Slocomb) Urquhart (1831-1919)

Mrs. Caroline "Augusta" (Slocomb) Urquhart

She was a noted society belle in her day in New Orleans and it was rumored at one time that she was to be married to George Eustis, but she gave her hand instead to the dashing Col. David Urquhart. This picture of her was painted in Paris in 1857. In her later years when she was living with her daughter, Cora, at Ye Old Bridge House in Staines (England), she was described by James Johnston Abraham as, "a lovely silver-haired, stately old lady with a beautiful Southern accent."
