Samuel Banister Slocomb (1799-1834)

Hardware & Firearms Merchant, of New Orleans

He built the Slocomb House (pictured) facing Lafayette Square in 1832, two years before his death. It remained home to his widow and then his daughter Augusta's family until her husband, Col. David Urquhart, was ruined when his bank collapsed in 1876. It became the Howard family home and was demolished in 1958.
