Anthony Nicholas Brady (1841-1913)

Anthony N. Brady, of Albany, New York

Born at Lille in France to an Irish family who had left Ardboe in County Tyrone when the Linen Trade fell into decline. The family then emigrated to New York and by the age of 12, Anthony Brady had started his working career in the employ of the Delavan House Hotel in Albany. By the time Brady died in 1913, he was worth an estimated $30 million while being a director of some 60 corporations including some of New York's largest public utilities companies. He was thought to be the largest shareholder in the American Tobacco Company and was President of the New York Edison Company etc. At one time, he was considered to be the wealthiest Catholic in the U.S. His son, Nicholas, is best remembered as the builder of the magnificent Inisfada
