Alexander Paterson (1786-1867)

Agent to the Union Bank; of Bank Street, Irvine, Ayrshire

He was born at Plewlands Farm in Ayrshire. He was a brother of Andrew Paterson who emigrated to Quebec City and became a leading merchant there. Another of their brothers, Thomas, was a Lieutenant-General in the Royal Artillery. Alexander married Christian, sister of John Jamieson, a partner in the mercantile firm of Gillespie, Moffat & Co., Montreal, in which their sons began their careers.
