James Paterson (1817-1854)

Merchant, of Gillespie, Moffat & Co., Quebec

He sailed out to Canada from Greenoch in 1837 on the brig Favorite captained by Bryce Allan. At Montreal, he joined the firm of Gillespie, Moffat & Co., of which his maternal uncle, John Jamieson, was a partner. He returned to Irvine owing to ill health and died there unmarried.
