William Rufus DeVane King (1786-1853)
William R. King, 13th Vice President of the United States, etc.
He served as the 13th Vice President under Franklin Pierce, filling that role after it had stood vacant for three years under Millard Fillmore. He had previously served as a U.S. Representative from North Carolina, U.S. Senator from Alabama, Dean of the U.S. Senate and President Pro Tempore of the U.S. Senate. He also served as the U.S. Minister to France under President James K. Polk. He was unmarried.
