William Forsyth-Grant (1804-1863)

William Forsyth-Grant J.P., D.L., of Ecclesgreig Castle, Kincardineshire

He inherited (1843) Ecclesgreig Castle (previously known as Mount Cyrus) from his maternal uncle, Frederick Grant, and added the name "Grant" to his surname in accordance with his uncle's wishes. In 1846, he commissioned Edmund Goodridge to give it its Victorian Gothic appearance for which it is now famous - it being said to have inspired Bram Stoker who visited here while writing Dracula.
