Thomas McKean (1779-1852)

Thomas McKean II, of Philadelphia

He was born in Philadelphia and brought up at Duche's House. He was private secretary to his father when he served as Governor of Pennsylvania and was Adjutant-General to the State Militia from 1808 to 1811 but otherwise lived off his investments. In 1809, he married Sarah, the only surviving daughter of the millionaire Henry Pratt, Shipping Merchant, of Philadelphia and Lemon Hill. They were the parents of a son and three daughters: (1) Henry Pratt McKean, of Philadelphia and Fernhill (2) Sarah, Mrs Trott (3) Elizabeth, Mrs Adolphe Borie (4) Clementina, Mrs Charles Borie.
