Henry Pratt McKean (1810-1894)
Henry Pratt McKean, of Philadelphia & "Fernhill" Germantown, Pennsylvania
He was born at Philadelphia. He entered but did not graduate from the University of Pennsylvania instead entering the counting house of his grandfather, Henry Pratt. When his grandfather died, he used his inheritance to go into the shipping business on his own account, partnering with his brother-in-law, Adolphe Borie. They did business in South America and Mexico before expanding into the China, East and West Indies trade. In 1841, at Troy, New York, he married Phebe, daughter of Stephen and Martha Cornell (Mabbett) Warren. They died within two days of one another at their country estate, Fernhill. They were survived by one son, Thomas.
