Robert Wormeley Carter (1734-1797)

Robert W. Carter, J.P., of Sabine Hall, Richmond County, Virginia

He was elected to the House of Burgesses in 1769 representing Richmond County with Francis Lightfoot Lee. He was an active opponent of British taxation on the Colonies. He served in the House of Delegates in 1779, 1781, and 1782 before retiring from politics to concentrate on the management of his estates. He was the father of five surviving children.
