Robert Edward Colborne Jarvis (1842-1903)

He was educated in Canada and England. He was commissioned into the Prince of Wales' Leinster Regiment. He was attached to the Staff College at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He then served with the Red Cross Ambulance Corps throughout the Franco-Prussian War (1870), and was awarded by the French government in recognition of his services with one of only two gold crosses made. Between 1878 and 1880, he served on the staff of future Field Marshal Frederick Roberts during the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878-1880). He later served in South Africa. Though described as, "an elegant young man, a very lady-killer," he died unmarried.
