Robert Beverley (1740-1800)

Robert Beverley, J.P., of "Blandfield" Essex Co., Virginia

He was born on the Blandfield Plantation in Virginia. He was educated in England at Wakefield in Yorkshire before entering Trinity College, Cambridge. Back in Virginia, he was a magistrate and in 1780 was elected to the Virginia Legislature but never took his seat. In 1763, at Sabine Hall, he married Maria Carter, grand-daughter of Robert "King" Carter. Between 1769 and 1773 he built Blandfield. He and his wife were the parents of 16-children of whom thirteen (listed above) survived to adulthood.
