Robert Beverley (1769-1843)

Robert Beverley, of Washington D.C. & "Blandfield" Essex Co., Virginia

He was born at Blandfield, Virginia, and was educated at Cambridge in England. He became a merchant in Washington D.C. and divided his time between "Acrolophos" (what is now Dumbarton Oaks to which he added the Orangery in 1810) and Blandfield. In 1791, he married Jane, daughter of John Tayloe, of Mount Airy, whose brother built the Octagon House. They had six children (listed above).
