Leonard Walter Jerome (1817-1891)

Stockbroker aka "The King of Wall Street" of New York City

He maintained a brokerage partnership and friendship with the celebrated and popular wit, William Riggin Travers, sharing his gregarious nature. He established "Jerome Park," a racetrack on an estate at Fordham in the Bronx and organized the first meeting of the New York Jockey Club in September, 1866. Among the members of that first meeting were August Belmont, Boss Tweed, Ulysses S. Grant, and J. Gordon Bennett.
