Katherine (Urquhart) Warren (1897-1976)

Founder of the Preservation Society of Newport Co.; Katherine (Urquhart) Warren

She was an art collector and preservationist interested in preserving Colonial Newport. To assist with this endeavor, she convinced the Countess Szycheni - daughter of Cornelius Vanderbilt II and owner of The Breakers - to open her mansion to the public for tours, starting the Preservation Society of Newport County. In 1961, she was appointed by First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy, to the committee to restore the White House. After she died, she willed her home in Newport to the Preservation Society.
