John Howard Wainwright (1829-1871)

J. Howard Wainwright, Vice-President of the New York Stock Exchange

He began his career at sea but became a stockbroker as senior partner in the firm of Seton & Wainwright. He was a Vice-President of the New York Stock Exchange, and in his private life he was a published poet and playwright. In 1861, at Stuyvesant Square, he married Margaret Livingston Stuyvesant and they had four children (listed). They lived at 19 West 33rd Street in New York City and in 1864 purchased Milton Point where their third son, Col. J. Mayhew Wainwright, built Wainwright House.
