John Henry Burstall (b.1845)

Lt.-Colonel J.H. Burstall, J.P., 60th Rifles, of Hessle Mount, East Yorkshire

He was born at Quebec and was educated in England at Cheltenham College. In 1866, he was commissioned into the 60th King's Royal Rifles and served in the Red River Expedition. He married Isabella Gibb Pemberton, daughter of Henry Pemberton, of Quebec. In the 1870s, he bought Hessle Mount (also referred to as 'The Mount') from his cousin that was originally built by his great-uncle, John Keiro Watson.
