John Greenshields (1823-1901)

Lumber Merchant & Mayor of Danville, Quebec

He was born in Scotland at Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, and in about 1833 came out with his family to St. Hilaire, Quebec. He settled in the Eastern Townships, he developed an extensive lumber business. He was Warden of Richmond and Mayor of Danville. In addition to his lumber business, he built a large section of the Grand Trunk Railway between Quebec and Montreal. He was survived by four daughters and three sons.
