Henry Middleton (1770-1846)

43rd Governor of South Carolina, State Senator & U.S. Minister to Russia

He was State Senator and 43rd Governor of Carolina before his election to Congress in 1815. In 1820, President Monroe appointed him U.S. Minister to Russia, where he lived with his wife for the next ten years before returning to Middleton Place. He and his wife were the parents of 13 children of whom ten (listed) survived to adulthood.
