Henry Middleton (1717-1784)

2nd President of the Continental Congress

He was one of the wealthiest landowners in America, at one time owning 20 plantations of some 50,000-acres and 800 slaves who worked them. Seven of his twelve children survived childhood (listed), all borne by his first wife, Mary Baker Williams, through whom he acquired Middleton Place
