Henry Huttleston Rogers (1840-1909)

"The Master Mind of Standard Oil" and Gas, Copper & Railroad Industrialist

He established himself in the petroleum industry to become one of the key men in John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Trust. He invested heavily in various industries, including copper, steel, mining, and railways. The Virginian Railway is widely considered his final great achievement. He amassed a fortune estimated at over $100-million, becoming one of the wealthiest ever men in the history of the United States. He was also a noted philanthropist who gave financial assistance and friendship to Mark Twain, Helen Keller, and Booker T. Washington.
