George Willing (1774-1827)

Merchant, of Willing & Francis, Philadelphia

He was born in Philadelphia and graduated from Princeton (1792). He entered his father's counting house and went to India on business with the firm of Willing & Francis. He retired from business at a young age. In 1795, he married his brother-in-law's (William Bingham's) niece, Maria Benezet, who died without issue in 1799. A year later, he married Maria's stepsister, Rebecca Harrison Blackwell, the only child of Rev. Robert Blackwell, and they were the parents of seven surviving children: (1) Maria, Mrs Willing Francis, then Mrs Sylvanus Hammersly (2) Robert, died unmarried (3) Harriet, Mrs Henry Ralston (4) Rebecca, Mrs George Henry Thomson (5) Eliza, Mrs Joseph Swift (6) Dorothy, Mrs John William Wallace (7) Charles, married Selena Watson.
