Harriet Elizabeth Longridge née Fowle (Emma) was the daughter of Thomas Everett Fowle and wife of Lt. Col. Theodore Longridge. Born in 1852, she was the eldest daughter of Thomas ans Sarah, some of the wealthiest people in Wiltshire, England. The Fowle's are related, through marriage, to the English author, Jane Austen. Jane's sister, Cassandra, was engaged to Thomas Fowle, one of her father's former pupils, before his tragic death at sea.

Before their son Theodore (Tel) was born, they moved to Rawalpindi, Punjab, British India, as her husband was stationed there in the army. In 1893, she married Theodore Longridge in Bengal, Inida in which she was “taken away” or walked down the aisle with General Roberts (later Lord Roberts of Kandahar). Her husband's nephew, Lt. Col. James Atkinson Longridge, was also married in India at a similar time.

Shortly after the marriage, their son Theodore Ernle Longridge (Tel) was born on 29 January, 1894. After living in India, they moved back to England around 1905. where lived partly in Chute Lodge as well as in Durrington.

 Emma sadly passed away in 1924 from an illness.
