Thomas Everett Fowle Esq of Chute Lodge, Durrinton, and Charlton (1807-1877)

Thomas Everett (Tom) was born in 1807 and outlived his brothers, thereby inheriting not only Durrington and Chute Lodge but also Charlton. He died in 1877. On 27 August 1851 at Newton Toney, Thomas Everett Fowle of Durrington (1807-1877), age 43, married Sarah AH Price (1830-1901), age 21, daughter of the Revd Hugh Price, Rector of Newton Toney. The Price family seem to have been relatively wealthy. Sarah’s brother Hugh became a parson but died early. I know nothing of her elder sister Charlotte Elizabeth. It seems that Sarah Price / TEF inherited substantial funds from her family. In 1866 Tom also inherited substantial funds from Miss Wickins, a longstanding friend (but not, as far as I can establish, a relative) of his wife Sarah Price. Tom was rather wealthier than his elder brother Henry had been, even before inheriting Chute Lodge and Charlton. This wealth enabled Tom to restore churches – notably Charlton St Peter (with help from Fred) and Chute St Nicolas and then to build Chute Forest St Mary. Thomas Everett Fowle died on 17 August 1877. His Will was granted probate on 9 October 1877, amended December 1888. Thomas Everett Fowle, Tom, the third son of William and Harriett Fowle of Chute Lodge, lived at Durrington, having inherited Durrington House and estate on the 1840 death of his father. He then inherited Chute Lodge (house and estate) and the Charlton farm estate on the 1865 death of his elder brother Revd Henry Fowle. Tom was wealthier than his elder brother and was an enthusiastic restorer / builder of churches, usually a patron of John Loughborough Pearson, who also dealt with repairs at Chute Lodge for him.
