David Stoddard Greenough (1752-1826)

J.P., Lawyer & Merchant, of Boston & Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts

He was a lawyer and merchant of Boston, and through his mother he was co-owner of the Yeamans plantation on Antigua (selling his share in 1818) and one-sixth owner of Noddles Island which he increased to a half share. He became "an ardent patriot" during the Revolution and was a member of the "Sons of Liberty" and on the Committee of Public Safety. After the Revolution, he moved with his family to Jamaica Plain (Roxbury) into what had been the home (see images) of Loyalist Joshua Loring and which would remain in his family until 1924. He was a Justice of the Peace in both Norfolk and Suffolk counties. In 1784, he married Anne, daughter of John and June (Collier) Doane, and widow of Elisha Doane. They were the parents of just one son.
