Ada (Mills) Redpath (1842-1901)

Mrs Ada Maria (Mills) Redpath; shot in the "Redpath Mansion Mystery"

She was the daughter of John Easton Mills, Mayor of Montreal, and through her mother she was a niece of Henry Lyman who built "Thornhill" on McTavish Street. She married Jack Redpath, co-heir to his father's considerable fortune, and they were the parents of five children. Tragically, she and their youngest son were both shot dead at the family home (see images) in 1901: the story remains a mystery but it looks as if her son shot her in a fit of rage before turning the gun on himself.
