William Colles (1648-1719)

Surgeon, of St. Stephen's Green, Dublin, & Kilcollen, Co. Kilkenny

He studied medicine in London and after a time at Sheffield settled in Kilkenny as a physician and surgeon. He acquired considerable landed property in County Kilkenny which he left to his son eldest son (Barry) whose only daughter and sole heiress, Susanna, married Joshua Paul Meredyth, and they were the parents of Sir Barry Colles Meredyth 7th Bt. William Colles had three wives and his son (William) by his second marriage (1695) was the owner of the Kilkenny Marble Works.
