William Colles (1648-1719)

Surgeon, of St. Stephen's Green, Dublin, and Kilcollen & Madaleen, Co. Kilkenny

He studied medicine in London and after a time at Sheffield settled in Kilkenny as a physician and surgeon. He built several houses on St. Stephen's Green in Dublin which remained in his family for several generations and acquired considerable landed property in County Kilkenny which he left to his son eldest son (Barry) whose only daughter and sole heiress, Susanna, married Joshua Paul Meredyth - the parents of Sir Barry Colles Meredyth 7th Bt. William Colles had three wives and his son (William) by his second marriage (1695) was the owner of the Kilkenny Marble Works.
