Barry Colles (1697-1785)
Barrister-at-law, of Dublin, Clonegown & Kilcollen; Mayor of Kilkenny
He was said to be a first cousin of the poet and diplomat Matthew Prior. He was twice Mayor of Kilkenny and St. John's Bridge was built by him, "some remains of fine architectural pieces prove the universality of his genius". He married and had just one daughter, Susanna, who was his sole heiress and by her who married Joshua Paul Meredyth, he was the maternal grandfather of Sir Barry Colles Meredyth 7th Bt.
