William Coffin (1761-1836)

Captain in the 15th Regiment & Brevet Major; of Quebec & Bath, England

He was born in Boston and was commissioned into the 1st Battalion of the King's Royal Regiment. In 1799, he was resident in Quebec, and with the help of the Duke of Kent, he gained a commission into the British Army. Having "served half the world over" he retired in 1816. In 1802, he married Mary, widow of the Rev. Hugh Williams Austin of Barbados, and they were the parents of two children. From at least 1808, he was resident in Bath in England where he died in 1836.
