William Beard (1801-1886)
Land Developer & Railroad Contractor, of Brooklyn, New York
He was born at Foxhall in County Westmeath, Ireland. Emigrating to New York, he is remembered for developing Erie Basin at Brooklyn, the largest man-made harbor on the Eastern Seaboard. He lived at 140 Amity Street in Brooklyn, had twenty children, and died leaving property and real estate valued at $100,000.
