Thomas Smith (1648-1694)

Governor & 1st Landgrave of Carolina

He lived in the first brick house (see images) in South Carolina from 1688 on the Medway Plantation on Back River near Goose Creek, fifteen miles from Charleston. He inherited Medway through his marriage to the widow of John d'Arssens, Seigneur de Wernhaut, and lived there until his death in 1694. He had two sons.
