Thomas Powell (1768-1856)
of Newburgh, New York
Orphaned by 12, he became one of the wealthiest citizens of Newburgh, New York, with a successful freight-forwarding business and large stock interests in railroads, banks, factories, steamships etc. He was the uncle of the millionaire brothers Henry and Daniel Parish. He married Mary, daughter of Robert Crommelin Ludlow, and had four children of whom just two (listed) survived adulthood and married.
