Thomas Newbold (1773-1815)

Thomas Newbold, Merchant, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

He was born on Newbold Island in Burlington County, New Jersey. He became a merchant at Philadelphia. In 1812, he married Catharine, daughter of Herman LeRoy, President of the Bank of New York. They were the parents of three children: (1) Herman LeRoy Newbold, married Mary Edwards Ogden (2) Thomas Haines Newbold, married Mary Elizabeth Rhinelander, aunt of the author Edith Wharton (3) Hannah Cornell Newbold, married William Henry Morris of "Morrisania," New York.
