Thomas Bibby (1739-1829)

Captain Thomas Bibby, British Deputy Adjutant-General in New York

He was born in Dublin, Ireland. He came to America during the Revolution as a Lieutenant with the 24th Foot. He was captured after the Battle of Saratoga and on his release exchanged into the 7th Regiment. In 1781, he was appointed Deputy Adjutant-General to the British troops in New York. The following year (1782), he married Margaret, daughter of Charles McEvers. After she died, in 1786 he married Rebecca, daughter of Samuel Gouverneur by whom he had several children.
