Susan Maria (Ludlow) Warren (b.1829)

Mrs Susan Maria (Ludlow) Warren, of 135 East 36th Street, New York

She and her husband lived in New York but after his retirement they lived in Washington D.C. He died at the Clarendon Hotel, New York, without children. Soon afterwards, Susan leased 135 East 36th Street from J.P. Morgan. In time, rumors began to circulate in society that their relationship was not merely confined to that of landlord and tenant. In his book - Watching Television Come of Age (2001) - Jack Gould recalled his father's favorite aunt, admitting that, "for many years 'Aunt Susie' was the reputed mistress of J.P. Morgan, Sr."
