Dr. Edward Greenleaf Ludlow (1793-1877)
M.D., Physician, of New York City & 59 Hawthorne Avenue, Yonkers, New York
He was born in New York City and became what his grandson (Francis Lewis Gould) called, "a beloved practitioner of what is a nearly extinct profession - the country doctor". He lived in a house (inherited by his youngest daughter) above the eastern bank of the Hudson River on the outskirts of Yonkers that was later given the address 59 Hawthorne Avenue. By that time, it was described as "an old-fashioned house" of three stories and a large basement with cellars - "well suited for wine storage".
