Sidney Howard Gay (1814-1888)

of Staten Island, New York; Author & Lecturer for the American Anti-Slavery Society

He was born at Hingham, Massachusetts. He was an abolitionist and lectured for the American Anti-Slavery Society as well as editing its newspaper. He also edited similar newspapers in New York and Chicago and co-authored "History of the United States" with William Cullen Bryant as well writing several other books. He married Elizabeth Neal of Philadelphia, and they were the parents of three children (listed) who lived to adulthood. They lived at Staten Island, New York.
