Sarah (Lambert) Crookshank (1782-1840)

Mrs Sarah Susannah (Lambert) Crookshank, of Wilton, Connecticut

She born at Wilton, Connecticut. Through her mother, she was the niece of two of New York's most prominent merchants: Moses Rogers, of 7 State Street, New York City, and Archibald Gracie who built the Gracie Mansion on Manhattan. In 1821, she married George Crookshank of Toronto; Deputy Commissary-General for Upper Canada and Member of the Privy Council. After she died in 1840, her sister, Julia Maria Lambert, came to Toronto and assisted in bringing up her two children.
