Sarah (Garrett) Meredith (1758-1822)

Mrs Sarah (Garrett) Meredith

She was born at Janeville, Co. Carlow, but after being orphaned grew up with her elder brother James Garrett (1740-1818), of Mount Pleasant, High Sheriff of Co. Carlow, of whom it was written (1812) in The Eudoxologist: "From Wicklow to Carlow, by fortune still drifted, To seek new adventures the scene I have shifted, To (James) Garrett of Janeville, I paid my addresses, To see and admire all the worth he possesses; Such worth as a century has scarcely known, And blazes and dazzles all eyes but his own; For ample support, with roast beef and good claret, Politely dispens'd – I'm indebted to Garrett". She was married in 1785 but died without children.
